Technique for Beginners
The class consists of a synthesis of contemporary dance techniques and is based on my practical experience. We are going to work with such basic ideas as parterre (work with the floor), weight, release technique.
The major methods to be studied are:
- understanding the skeletal and muscular structures of the body,
- building a balanced position,
- feeling the weight and dynamics of different parts of the body,
- position of the body in space.
The general rule of the class structure reads: from simple to complex.
The class starts with simple exercises on the floor where you set your muscles to work and get rid of excessive tension. Gradually coming up, we are going to do a more detailed muscle warm-up and work at the articulation of movements. Special attention will be paid to the movement flow. Then we will pass from simple and short phrases to more complex ones. Finally, we will do a dance combination with a logical flow of movements that includes all methods studied in class.
