KEREN LEVI

THE NETHERLANDS
technique

Keren Levi (Israel, 1972) danced in Israel with The Kibbutz Dance Company and Batsheva Ensemble. She left Israel in 1996 and is now based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

In Europe Keren worked as a freelance dancer with companies and makers such as Philippe Blanchard (Sweden), Sanna Myllylahti (Finland/NL), Leine & Roebana (The Netherlands), Christine Gaigge (Austria) and Club Guy & Roni (The Netherlands) among others.

Keren is teaching in the Theatre School in Amsterdam for both the choreography department (SNDO) and the modern department (MTD).
She is also teaching company classes for Sasha Waltz & Guests (Berlin) and Ultimavez (Brussels) and teaches in festivals and training programs across Europe such as HJS (Amsterdam) and The Loft (Brussels).

TECHNIQUE CLASS
The class is release-based. It begins with a slow body-work warm-up which accelerates into a dynamic floor-work phrase that travels the room. Physical principles such as isolation, opposition and weight-shift are presented as the class continues with vertical exercises combined with floor-work. These exercises ask the participants to be aware of different initiations of movement and the organization of the body as it moves. The class ends with a dance-phrase that puts in context some of the technical elements introduced during class.
